Traditional APIs assume a developer is orchestrating every step. Agents introduce a new caller: software that must infer what to do next from the contract.
Describe state
An agent needs to know whether an operation completed, is pending, or failed partially. That state is as important as the endpoint itself.
Make retries safe
Idempotency keys, explicit permissions, and reversible actions give agents a safer operating envelope. Reliability starts in the API design.
