Model routing sends different tasks to different models so a product can balance quality, speed, reliability, and cost.
Model routing is a decision layer between a user request and one or more AI models.
A product might use a fast model for classification, a stronger model for complex reasoning, and a smaller model for formatting.
Routing needs evaluation. If teams cannot tell whether the chosen model improved the completed task, the extra architecture is difficult to justify.
